Funding for Education without tax increases

Passage of the bill will go a long way toward paying for the regents deferred maintenance program and rebuild the buildings that need repair. The bill earmarks 25% of the revenues for deferred maintenance. When it comes to the need to fund education and other vital state services, the Act will provide the state with new revenue sources through the existing gaming market in our state.  Over the next five years, the state’s share of revenues from gaming could total more than one billion dollars.  Those new funds will allow the state to invest in education without future tax increases.

Opportunity in agriculture

The Kansas live racing industry, through greyhounds, quarter horses and thoroughbreds adds hundreds of million of dollars to the rural agricultural economy. This plan adds new incentives for growth of these valuable industries, adding more than $200 million to the economy of rural Kansas through expanded breeding, training and ownership of racing greyhounds, quarter horses and thoroughbreds.

Promoting new opportunities for tourism

Adding Destination Casinos to our tourism package will enhance other efforts to make Kansas a place to visit.  Tourism means new sources of revenues and jobs for Kansans.  Well placed, well-planned facilities, can enhance the efforts to bring more visitors to our state.  The plan represents a careful approach aimed at ensuring success of the tourism effort and the ability to bring people to Kansas.
